Wandering through the Unveiled

Duration
2024.10.09 - 12.08

When we encounter landscape paintings in Taiwan’s art history, we often place ourselves in the era they depict, imagining the scenes of life of that time. In this exhibition, Artshrimp (Lin Chih-Wei) walks through landscapes of Taiwan found in art history, immersing himself in the perspectives of those artists. Through this retrospective gaze at history, he seeks to portray a contemporary vision of these Taiwan’s landscapes.

Following in the footsteps of his predecessors, Artshrimp visited locations such as Dadaocheng, Tamsui, Houtong, and the Salt Fields. By walking through these areas and absorbing their essence, he projected the scenes in his heart onto paper. He hopes that viewers will feel a tranquil strength in this atmosphere and experience views unique to our time.

Artshrimp employs a distinctive painting technique to document landscapes differently from photography. Through the rich grayscale variations of ink combined with materials and methods like sandpaper and glue, he creates a rich sense of line and delicate textures, evoking the sensation of pencil sketches. This painting approach redefines the boundaries between realism and art, presenting both rational and emotional nuances. Using this developing technique, Artshrimp deeply imprints the landscapes of our era onto our hearts.
