劉呈祥
Born in Taichung, Taiwan in 1986, he graduated from the Bartlett School of Architecture at the University College London (UCL) with a Master’s degree and received the Academic Excellence Award.
He uses new media art (generative art) and video creation (photography, video) to explore the connection between the artificial and the natural, focusing on the essence of existence and life. He uses algorithms to replace traditional brushes and discusses in depth the interaction and cooperation between humans and machines, as well as the contemporary exploration of artificial intelligence and creativity.
In recent years, he has participated in many international residency programs, including Baer Art Center in Iceland (2023), Le lieu unique National Center for Contemporary Art in France (2022), and Po Leung Kuk Art Residency Program @ V54 in Hong Kong (2021). At the same time, his representative solo exhibitions "Architecture" (2022) at Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts and "une ville, uncosmos" (2022) at Le lieu unique National Center for Contemporary Art in France.
His creative journey began with the Artificial Natural Form series in 2015, which explored biological behavior in depth. The subsequent Cosmos of Thoughts series (2017) was based on algorithmic generation, and progressed to the AI-infused Pixelverse series in 2023, which systematically explored the integration of life, algorithms, and artificial intelligence, crossing over to the fields of film and installation art, and introducing the dimension of time.
His work captures the interaction between “artificial/digital” and “natural/analog”, juxtaposing light and digital images through an algorithmic system, deeply exploring themes such as the appearance of life, man-made buildings, and the transition from analogy to digital abstraction, implying the nature of life.
In the field of contemporary art, he sees artificial intelligence as a reflection of human existence, and deeply explores the role of big data of human behavior and technology in art. He points out a paradox that the intervention of human existence coexists with the absence of its assumptions. The role of artists has changed in historical evolution and has become a new mission to connect the deep level of human emotions. In this turbulent era, new technologies have made art a medium that transcends language, and has become a force to connect the world through meaningful dialogues and moving works.
